Spring into action at Chelmsley Wood – Bluebell Remembrance Garden

On Wednesday 25th May at 12.00pm, William H Painter alongside St.. Andrews Church held a community meeting about making over the memorial garden outside the branch at Pike Drive, Chelmsley Wood. The Deacon of St Andrews Church contacted funeral arranger Jeanette whose branch overlooks the garden asking for her help and along with Reverend Mike Harman Jeanette agreed to take the lead on the project.

35 people came along including relatives of those whose ashes were scattered in the garden and seasonal seeds were given to all who attended. The idea behind the project is to create a more pleasant and tranquil space for those who visit their loved ones. There was also an opportunity for those in attendance to put forward their ideas for a name for the garden and “Bluebell Remembrance Garden” was chosen.

Staffordshire and West Midlands Community Rehabilitation Services are supporting the project. As part of their ongoing mission to support the community they have been providing a team to enhance the facilities to enable local residents to appreciate and to be able to safely utilise the memorial garden, whilst ensuring that people convicted of a community sentence are having a positive impact on the community. Local Police Community Support Officers have also agreed to look in on the garden to maintain its safety and security.

Thanks to the generosity of the community there have been some items donated which will enhance the garden even more. Local garden centre www.Gardensite.co.uk kindly donated a stone birdbath, bird box, bird feeder and feed to attract local wildlife into the garden, BFS Garden Supplies have donated a bird table. A local plumber has also very kindly agreed to put a tap in the garden for free and since the meeting there have been more offers of help.

Refreshments of tea, coffee and cakes donated by Greggs were served.
A memorial service is to be held in July
