David Perry’s Story

David Perry

It was wonderful to be able to use the Landrover and trailer. It meant so much to me and so many others who knew my father.

The Funeral of David Perry, aged 81 years, June 2013

David Perry was a landscape gardener who worked most of his life in the Forest of Dean. For his funeral, therefore, his family chose the Forest of Dean Crematorium. The day became rather special when his family asked whether David had to travel in a hearse, or whether he could travel in a friend’s trailer towed by his beloved Landrover. Our answer was that of course he could – and we were delighted that his last journey took place on a sunny day, surrounded by the things he loved.

How our funeral directors helped

When a family has an unusual request, it’s our job to make it happen – and sometimes we can add something special. For David’s funeral we suggested simply placing hedge and tree cuttings from David’s garden in the trailer and on the coffin – the family loved the idea and said it made his last journey very special.

The services we supplied

  • Service sheets
  • York coffin
  • Funeral staff present even though family bearers

What the family said about our service

‘It was wonderful to be able to use the Landrover and trailer.  It meant so much to me and so many others who knew my father.’

‘I particularly appreciated your positive can-do response to a rather unusual request – I am very pleased that my father’s mechanic was just around the corner from you, though!‘
